The second Active Gamer’s Australia school holiday program was held in Canberra in January 2019.
It ran in conjunction with AFL ACT as fitness partner at their new facility in Phillip.
This second event was a significant expansion of the pilot and saw a threefold increase in registrations including many returning kids from the first program.
A typical day saw a morning ‘free play’ gaming session followed by a fun fitness session on the AFL oval run by qualified AFL trainers. Then it was time for a healthy lunch provided by local business Macro Fresh Foods.
Next up was a video game based team building session where the kids might crew a pirate ship together or form a team (complete with drawing a flag on a big piece of corflute) to defeat all comers in a mini-tournament.
After this it was a trip to the pool across the road and then the kids were then free to do their own thing with another free play video game session.
We also had community visits from the Guide Dogs and ACT Emergency Services.
Following the great success of our second program we applied for Approved Childcare provider status from the ACT Education Directorate which was granted in April.
